Welcome to SAPQI

The Southern African Power Quality Initiative is a regional initiative to understand, formulate,
unite and operationalise the electrical Power Quality (PQ) industry.

Words describing PQ within the Southern African Electricity Supply Industry:

• Industry on eve of large capacity building phase
• Little interaction between key role players,
• Lack of clear direction from key players,
• High expectations,
• Pressure to perform,
• Insufficient capacity.

The key objectives of the Southern African Power Quality Initiative:

• Spearhead interaction between key role players
• Facilitate the formulation of regional PQ requirements
• Report regional PQ requirements back to members
• Put forward regional specification and good practice guides
• Be a forum for industry by industry to voice PQ issues and concerns
• Create a Centre of Excellence in PQ
• Coordinate and promote PQ research
• Promote benefits from economies of scale
• Facilitate the publication of academic PQ contributions of note
• Organise a regional Southern African Power Quality Conference and Exhibition
• Establish strategic partnerships with similar initiatives internationally.
